Medallion Theatre (dramatic anthology)
(CBS Saturday Nights, 1953 - 1954)
[This ambitious half-hour series included abridged dramas
starring Henry Fonda, Jack Lemmon, Claude Rains and
Charleton Heston among others; despite the talented
casts, the half-hour format and time slot wasn't favorable
so the series was cancelled after a single season]
Theme: "Lovers' Moon from the British film 'The Passionate
Friends'"
[aka: "The Passionate Friends";
aka: "Lovers' Moon from 'One Woman's Story'"
TV THEME title credit verified in the Ray Clark collection;
Richard Addinsell was one of the more well-known British
composers who also contributed to the Chappell Recorded
Music Library, a division of Chappell & Co. music publishers
of London, England;
The Chappell library was distributed in the United States
by New York publisher Emil Ascher who was the sole selling
agent during the 1940s and 1950s for Chappell as well as
several other European "mood music" libraries;
Addinsell was perhaps best known for "The Warsaw Concerto"
a dramatic instrumental fantasy in the style of a concerto
which he wrote for the film "Dangerous Moonlight", which was
an international instrumental hit in 1943 for Freddy Martin,
and was recorded by many others in the decades since then;
Another version added a lyric to this melody under the name
"The World Outside" which yielded yet more recordings;
This THEME known as "Lovers' Moon" was also a tuneful piece
recognized by the public, from the 1949 David Lean British
film "The Passionate Friends", starring Ann Todd, Trevor Howard
and Claude Rains (released in the U.S. as "One Woman's Story")]
