[Henry Mancini was perhaps the best-known film/TV composer
of the decade of the 1960s because of his crossover from
the TV scores he wrote for "Peter Gunn" and "Mr. Lucky"
having popular success on record charts, and his subsequent
movie scores for "The Pink Panther", "Charade" and others;
This effort was well intentioned, but by the time Henry
Mancini was asked to host this series featuring his
orchestra, over a dozen years had past since he was at
the peak of his fame with the "younger generation", and
the "Rock revolution" of the late-1960s had taken place;
by the time this series appeared, the generation of
"flower children" coming up in the early 1970s embraced
heavy metal, singer/songwriters and the beginnings of
disco, so the series wasn't to catch on...]
