(ABC Primetime, 1965 - 1966) [this mid-60s series did indeed try to create a "legend" more than tell the truth, by portraying Jesse James as a kind of "Robin Hood of the Old West" (to borrow a phrase -- this was the phrase used to describe an earlier TV star -- the Cisco Kid about 15 years earlier.) The problem was that this one-season series stretched the historical truth and credibility to the breaking point in making such a claim for the younger brother of the James gang; Allen Case played the role of brother Frank, and their mother was played by Ann Doran; a frustrated pursuing U. S. marshall named Sam Corbett rounded out the cast, played by Robert Wilke]
