[long before the Boston bar known as "Cheers" became famous,
there was "Duffy's Tavern" a New York bar, which had been
the setting of a long-running radio series;
Ed Gardner, who starred on both the radio and tv series
was the show's creator; he played Archie, the manager of
the bar -- owner Duffy was never to be heard or seen...
unfortunately this series didn't make the translation to
television very well...]
[this old standard was originally featured in a 1912 musical
revue, "The Isle O' Dreams"; and it became a popular song
during the teens and twenties]
