(ABC Nighttime, 1969 - 1975) This was the third of several talk and variety shows hosted by the genial witty intellectual comedian from Nebraska, who was a devoted fan and friend of Groucho Marx in his later years, and a friend of Woody Allen from his early career; This was a mid-season December replacement in ABC's 1969 Fall Season after Cavett's appeal was proven in a Summer series; Unlike Cavett's earlier and later talk/interview, formats, this was a combination of talk and variety in this late-night slot which Cavett inherited and made his own on ABC, succeeding Joey Bishop; ABC doomed the show when it got lost during 1973 - 75 in their late-night "Wide World of Entertainment" umbrella with continual pre-emptions and interruptions for "special event programming" and movies, etc.]
