Bus Stop (dramatic anthology)
(ABC Primetime, 1961 - 1962)
[There was a 1956 film of the same name starring Marilyn Monroe,
Hope Lange and Don Murray who meet in a Phoenix western saloon;
but this TV series directed by Robert Altman had no connection
with the movie -- being a loose dramatic anthology set in a
modern Colorado bus stop/cafe -- whose continuing characters
were played by a cast including Rhodes Reason, Marilyn Maxwell,
and Richard Anderson]
Open Theme: "Theme from 'Bus Stop'"
[above is title as filed for copyright;
aka: "Bus Stop"; and
aka: "Bus Stop Theme";
The Marilyn Monroe film "Bus Stop" used a Main Title based
upon the folk song "Paper of Pins" to emphasize the folksy
film characters; It was published as "The Bus Stop Song";
But the film Main Title was not used on TV;
For this television series new THEMEs were commisioned from
composer Arthur Morton who had been an orchestrator for many
other film/TV composers for years; and this was one of the
few times he was hired as composer and wrote a Main/End THEMEs...
His Main Title for the TV series was held in wide esteem by
colleagues when it appeared in the early 1960s]
