The Bing Crosby Show (sitcom)
(ABC Primetime, 1964 - 1965)
[This sitcom was an attempt to take the man who defined the
word "crooner" and turn his personal life into a comedy alá
"Burns & Allen", "Father Knows Best" or perhaps more like
"Ozzie and Harriet";
The situation was that a former singer (played by Bing of course)
decided to retire from show business and become (of all things)
an electrical engineer; The role of his wife was played by
Barbara Garland; The characters also had two daughters;
Somehow, between managing the predictable domestic crises,
Bing's character managed to work a song into every episode --
something not even band singer Ozzie Nelson dared to try
on his TV show (although son Ricky was indulged);
This far-fetched contrivance was put out of its misery after
a single season; Too bad, since Bing Crosby Productions had
produced many other successful series; But the one for the
boss bombed]
