(ABC Primetime, 1971 - 1973)
[the fanciful premise of this series cast two outlaws similar
in personality to those in the film "Butch Cassidy and the
Sundance Kid"; however in this TV series the outlaws decide
to "go straight" for a year and try to earn amnesty by doing
good deeds under assumed names -- alias "Smith" and "Jones";
Peter Duel spelled his last name "Deuel" when he was on the
series "Love On A Rooftop";
a very bizarre occurrence marred what was becoming a hit show,
when co-star Peter Duel watched an episode of the series, and
then shot himself to death in 1972; at that point, his
character was re-cast with actor Roger Davis, but the audience
didn't buy the new cast]
