Time For Beany / Beany and Cecil (children)

    (Syndicated, 1950 - 1955;
     ABC Weekends, 1962 - 1967;
     1962 cartoon series title: "The Beany and Cecil Show")

    [the original series -- a daily puppet show -- was created by Bob
     Clampett, Sr., who was also an animator; The 2nd cartoon version
     was produced in 1962. Originally the cartoon version on ABC
     premiered as part of a Mattel Toys-sponsored cartoon show called
    "Matty's Funday Funnies", but soon "Beany and Cecil" was spun
     off into its own weekend time slot.

     Beany was a "boy" puppet/cartoon character and his nautical pal,
     Cecil, was a puppet/cartoon character whose full name was
     the tongue-twister, "Cecil, the Seasick Sea-Serpent"]

Theme 1 (1950 - 1955): "Beany and Cecil (Themes)"

    [above is ASCAP title attrib. to Clampetts;
     aka: "Come Go Sailing" (first lyric line);

     The melody of this THEME is very similar to and may have been
     adapted from "Sailing, Sailing (Over The Bounding Main)", known
     commonly as "Sailing, Sailing (Over The Ocean Blue)", written
     by Godfrey Marks [pseudonym of James Frederick Swift], first
     published in 1880 by Reid Brothers of Oxford St., London;

     The song was also freely "borrowed" and adapted by Sir Arthur
     Sullivan (of Gilbert & Sullivan) for use in his operettas, and
     so is sometimes incorrectly attributed to him...]
