(CBS Saturday Mornings, 1955 - 1957; rerun on ABC Saturday Mornings, 1957 - 1959) [this Screen Gems Production covered adventures of Texas Rangers ranging from the 1850's to the 1950's; Willard Parker and Harry Lauter played the no-nonsense men, who "always got their man"; it was a popular series which was re-run on ABC after CBS; this was similar to an NBC radio series of the same name which aired from 1950 - 1952 with a THEME that combined a melodic phrase from the college song, "The Eyes Of Texas" with an original melody composed by David Rose heard in full as the End Credits THEME]
[adapted from "The Eyes Of Texas" (1903), a lyric written for a University of Texas "minstrel show" by John Lang Sinclair, using the melody of the 1890's college song "I've Been Working On The Railroad" (a "Levee song") presumably originating in the South...but first published in 1894 with the sub-title "as heard at Princeton" (University); "The Eyes Of Texas" was quickly adopted as an unofficial anthem of Texas and its Rangers; The copyright filing for "Tales Of The Texas Rangers" credits Friedman and Chalif "on words and arrangement" only since the source melody is in the public domain. Selmer Chalif was a producer who probably contributed to the words of the THEME more than the music arrangement] Adapters/Arrangers: Irving Friedman (ASCAP) and Selmer L.
