Portia Faces Life / The Inner Flame (soap opera)

    [This was an attempt to translate a long running radio series
     from 1940, to a television version. The premise, as well as the title,
     was a bit melodramatic -- it concerned the adventures of a woman
     who chooses a career as an attorney over the traditional
     1940s role as a housewife;

     Perhaps any engaging drama in that type of conflict was already
     beginning to wear thin by the mid-1950s; but when it became obvious
     that the transition from radio to TV wasn't working very well,
     there was a desperate attempt to re-cast its roles and change the
     series title to "The Inner Flame".

     Unfortunately the problems with this series proved too
     intractable, so the melodrama ended after one season on TV in
     favor of less "over the top" soaps which followed.]

Theme: "Portia Faces Life Theme"

    [one change for television was to replace the typical organ
