Manhattan Showcase / Places, Please (talent-variety)

     (CBS Primetime, 1948 - 1949)

     [the show which had begun under the title "Places, Please" was a
      variety show airing several times a week; originally Barry Wood
      produced the show and hosted it; when he left, it was re-titled
     "Manhattan Showcase" with host Johnny Downs who had been a child
      actor, one of the "Little Rascals" during the "Our Gang Comedy"
      series; and also appeared in Broadway shows; Helen Gallagher 
      was Johnny Down's assistant on the program;

      It had begun as a talent - variety series under Barry Wood with
      young up-coming artists being featured;

      Eventually Johnny Downs moved to the West Coast and settled in
      San Diego where he hosted a children's cartoon TV show for many 
      years called "The Johnny Downs Show"]
