Ivanhoe (adventure, starring Roger Moore)
(Syndicated, 1958;
Syndicated, 1972)
[as a young man, the once and future "James Bond", Roger Moore,
starred as the romantic hero of this fictional adventure -- known
as "Sir Wilfred of Ivanhoe"; the series was produced by British
Independent Television (ITC) with backing from the U.S. company
Screen Gems, which distributed its release in syndication in
the United States;
It was based upon the hero of an 1819 Scottish novel by Walter
Scott involving intrigues within the British court of Richard I;
Ivanhoe was also the subject of several films -- including
a 1952 MGM film with Robert Taylor in the lead role, which
was scored by Miklos Rozsa;
This TV series was re-released in 1972 during the years when
"James Bond" films starring Moore hit the theatre screens.
Another British-produced movie version of Ivanhoe was released
in 1982 scored by Allyn Ferguson]
Opening & Closing Theme: "Ivanhoe"
[aka: "Ivanhoe Theme";
aka: "Ivanhoe Tune";
Although a music credit in Craig Pattillo's book
"TV Theme Soundtrack Directory" lists Edwin Thomas Astley
as composer of this series THEME, contributor Jim Marshal
dug a bit deeper and, after corresponding with ASCAP,
verified the 1958 composer of the vocal THEME song
was a relative unknown -- Ben Berenberg;
So why was Astley credited in the book on TV themes?
An opening horn fanfare spliced onto the song may have
been an Edwin Astley cue, since he is given credit in
ASCAP as composer of some "Ivanhoe Cues."]
