Duffy's Tavern (sitcom, starring Ed Gardner)

    (Syndicated, 1954)

    [long before the Boston bar known as "Cheers" became famous,
     there was "Duffy's Tavern" a New York bar, which had been
     the setting of a long-running radio series;

     Ed Gardner, who starred on both the radio and tv series
     was the show's creator; he played Archie, the manager of
     the bar -- owner Duffy was never to be heard or seen...

     unfortunately this series didn't make the translation to
     television very well...]
