(ABC Saturday nights, 1958 - 1960) [aka: "The Dick Clark Show"; During the infant days of rock'n'roll, the ambitious host of the premiere daily dance tv show, "American Bandstand", Dick Clark, commuted from Philadelphia to do a similar TV show in New York City every weekend. The show was sponsored by the makers of "Beechnut" gum, and so it was named for both the host and the sponsor. Whether it was the strain on the host having to work both weekends and weekdays, or whether the ratings showed that the kids who watched "Bandstand" after school on weekdays were out on dates Saturday Nights, the show only lasted two seasons.]
